Making Christmas Memories

I have been a Christmas machine. Probably 10 pounds of holiday cards have been mailed! Gift shopping is done, and the house is decorated. We usually travel out of state to visit my family up north, but this year, we’re making Christmas Magic in our own home. And, my parents are traveling to our house. I can’t wait!

My parents — my mom especially — always made the holidays so magical for us. There isn’t a Christmas memory I have that isn’t filled with love, laughter, and the joy of Christmas. Now, I’m a mom. And I want to create the same memories for my son. I want the season jam-packed with the traditions I grew up with, and create some of our own.

Making Christmas Memories – Santa on the North Pole Express from Essex, Ct.

This weekend, I’m teaching a dear friend to make pierogi, the traditional Slovakian dish served on Christmas Eve. My husband was the photographer for ‘Pictures With Santa’ this weekend at our local Community Center. I think, he also set our DVR back in August to record his favorite Christmas show – ‘Prep and Landing’. Our brand new cookie press was delivered yesterday, and I plan to start making Christmas cookies with Nicholas this weekend. Hopefully I’ll do better than I did on Thanksgiving (that was a disaster! And a different story for a different post…)

Bottom line? I plan to do as much as I can to make this holiday magical. There will be messes, and there will be successes. I won’t get some of what I hope to get done, done. But I don’t think my little guy will remember that. I’m pretty sure he’ll only remember the tree, the smells of Christmas coming out of the kitchen, playing with his train around the tree, writing letters to and visiting Santa.

Have a wonderful holiday season! No matter how you celebrate, I wish you a season filled with joy, love and making beautiful memories.

Xoxo – Joyfully Mom

The Joy of Discovering Nature With Your Kids

All kids love to be outside, and most kids aren’t outside nearly enough.  I mean honestly, if you keep kids inside you’re just asking for trouble. If they are going crazy “jumping off the walls” as we tend to say….well then take them where there aren’t […]
