A Day Off
Mount Washington - Joyfully Mom

For the first time in a long time, my husband and I had the day off of parenting today. Ahhhhhh. We decided to go without a plan. Just enjoy the beautiful fall air, the amazing foliage, and climb Mount Washington. In our car.

For as long as my parents have been living in Maine (you can basically see Mount Washington from their house), combined with all of the years of visits to Maine & New Hampshire, I had never been, and I’m not sure what I’ve been waiting for!

What a beautiful place. We had a clear weather day, which I’m told isn’t usual for Mount Washington. It was 46 degrees on the summit with winds between 36 and 40 mph and I loved every minute. There were people there with winter garb, but not me. I live for cooler temperatures.

Best of all, it was a chance to reconnect with my husband surrounded by the beauty of this place. No complaints about the weather. No worries about what our little guy would like for a snack or ways to keep him entertained. Just the two of us. Simple as that. He has always said that it’s super important to him to make sure we don’t lose our identity as individuals or as a couple. That we aren’t only parents. I’m glad. We needed today. Thank you mom and dad – giving us this time together was such a blessing.  🙂

Enjoy each other. Take people up on their offers to spend time with your children. It’s not only good for them, it’s important for you. And if you’re in New England, don’t let the opportunity pass to visit this great place. I may even look into volunteering. Apparently you can volunteer for a week at a time. Sounds perfect.

Now, back to our pumpkin. I may have needed today, but I already miss him. If I could only find my husband who is now off looking for his next great photo of a waterfall.
